Definition: The two-character ISO 3166 country code for SWEDEN.
Search Costs
Definition: Costs associated with locating a counterparty to a trade, including explicit costs (such as advertising) and implicit costs (such as the value of time). Related: Information costs.
Seasonality Claims
Definition: Misleading sales pitches that one can earn large profits with little risk based on predictable seasonal changes in supply or demand, published reports or other well-known events.
Seasonally Adjusted
Definition: Mathematically adjusted by moderating a macroeconomic indicator (e.g., oil prices/imports) so that relative comparisons can be drawn from month to month all year.
Seasoned
Definition: In the case of equity, having gained a reputation for quality with the investing public and enjoying liquidity in the secondary market; in the case of convertibles, having traded for at least 90 days after issue in Europe, and thus available for sale legally to U.S. investors.
Seasoned Datings
Definition: Extended credit for customers who order goods in periods other than peak seasons.
Seasoned Issue
Definition: Issue of a security for which there is an existing market. Related: Unseasoned issue.
Seasoned New Issue
Definition: A new issue of stock after the company's securities have previously been issued. A seasoned new issue of common stock can be made using a cash offer or a rights offer.
Seat (Instrument On Exchange)
Definition: An instrument granting trading privileges on an exchange. A seat may also represent an ownership interest in the exchange.
Seat (On Exchange)
Definition: Position of membership on a securities or commodity exchange, bought and sold at market prices.
SEC Fee
Definition: Small fee the SEC charges to sellers of equity securities on an exchange.
Secert Ballot
Definition: In the context of corporate governance, this is also known as confidential voting. An independent third party or employees sworn to secrecy are used to count proxy votes, and the management usually agrees not to look at individual proxy cards. This can help eliminate potential conflicts of interest for fiduciaries voting shares on behalf of others, or can reduce pressure by management on shareholder-employees or shareholder-partners.
Second Home
Definition: A residence that is not one's principal (primary) residence; for example, a vacation home. See also "primary residence."
Second Market
Definition: The OTC market.
Second Mortgage
Definition: Similar to a "mortgage." See "second mortgage" under "mortgage."
Second Mortgage Lending
Definition: Loans secured by real estate previously pledged in a first mortgage.
Second Pass Regression
Definition: A cross-sectional regression of portfolio returns on betas. The estimated slope is the measurement of the reward for bearing systematic risk during the period analyzed.
Second Round
Definition: Stage of venture capital financing following the start-up and first round stages and before the mezzanine level stage.
