Three Ways to Save on your Cable Bill in 2014

With 2013 coming to an end, now is the time to review your budget for the new year. Are there any changes you can make to keep more money in your pocket? Rather than focus on the general theme of saving, you should dig deeper to find specific ways to improve your financial situation.

Do you get the feeling you are spending too much money every month on cable service? If so, you are in the same position as many others. It is nice to have cable television, especially if you enjoy watching shows and movies, but it doesn’t mean you should overspend.

Here are three of the best ways to save on your cable bill in 2014:

1. Review your cable package to see where you can cut back. You may be surprised to find that you are paying for channels you never watch. By decreasing the number of channels you receive, you will find yourself saving money every month. Does it get any easier than that?

2. Check out the competition – and let your cable provider know you are doing so. Make a list of the cable companies serving your area, as well as other options, such as satellite providers. From there, request a quote for service from each one. Soon enough, you will see if making a change would be in your best interest.

Along the way, let your current provider know that you are speaking with other companies. This may be all you need to say in order to secure a lower price. In short, cable companies don’t like losing business to the competition.

3. Negotiate, negotiate, and negotiate some more. It is easy to believe that you have to pay the price you are offered, since this is what most people do. However, nothing could be further from the truth. You have the right to negotiate with your cable provider, and you should consider doing so. Let them know where you stand, as well as what the competition has to offer. From there, do your best to secure a deal you are comfortable with.

If you are tired of overpaying for cable service, 2014 is the time to make a change. Let the three tips above guide you down the path to big time savings.
