islander36's review: Callout Comment I applied for this card and got turned down for this best buy store card. I had a HSBC platnum Visa prior to filing bk. They were included in my bk in 2005, so they rejected my application due to bk. My scores for Tu 660, Ex635 and Eq599. I guess HSBC has not forgiven me.

Remarks I would give them a call and speak to a manager/credit analyst to see if they can start you off with a small credit limit and work your way up.

It seems strange to me that they would deny you for including them in your BK. HSBC doesn't blacklist and they give second chances to those who apply for their MasterCards. I'm not sure if the same applies to their store cards.

FYI: The Best Buy store card is issued by HSBC Retail Services, a division of HSBC Bank.

Remarks I agree that HSBC dosen't blacklist. I opened an acct. W/them in '05 and 18 mths later I lost my job and couldn't pay, my acct.,It was sent to collections. In 04/08 I opened another acct. And after the same 18 mths my CL is 3x higher than the previous acct. Maybe their store cards are different. I just appreciate the 2nd chance.

Remarks Should I try applying for a MasterCard instead of a store card? Should I wait for a preapproval in the mail?

Re: Got Turned Down User Icon on 2009-12-10

Remarks It depends on whether you're trying to rebuild your credit or take advantage of the in-store promotions. With the MasterCard, you are not eligible for these promotions but are fairly easy to get approved for and are great for rebuilding credit. On the other hand, the Best Buy store card is harder to get approved because you can use it for large purchases and take advantage of the no interest promotions.

Remarks If you don't mind paying an annual fee, go for the Mastercard. It's a great rebuilder card and won't leave a dent in your wallet.
