You can always freeze her reports without her knowing. Creditors will not be able to pull her report therefore she will not be issued any credit whatsoever. You can always either temporarily or permanently lift the freeze off her reports. That's what I would do.

I like that!!!!! Please, share the details!!!! How do I start, where, when, how, etc., etc.

I hate to say this, but if she is buck wild with cc's, I would say, "Shred it!" She is too young to have messed up credit. Also, installment plans with Sallie Mae should be free. They should only be charging interest on subsides loans while in school. Try setting up a plan with your checking account, the will lower your interest. I had Chase to purchase my Sallie Mae account (well my school did it for me) and I am charged a 1% perc rate for the first 2 years and 5% thereafter for doing so. I am not for sure if you did your homework on Sallie Mae, but they have done some scandalous things on us students and other banks. Goggle it up, you will see.

The fee with Sallie Mae is set up by the school - it's $40.00. one time set up fee - no loans yet.

My only concern about shredding the card is she will apply for another one and have it mailed to another address, and I won't find out about it until she ruins her credit.

humm, what is the APR on the card vs the tuition that could be arrange in monthly installments. I am not for sure how the tuition works at your daughter school but, at the university I attend, they will allow monthly payments for that semester at no additional charge or fee as long as it is paid before the next semester begins. If you are going to make payments on $700 then I think you should have just made that to the school. But then again, that is only if the school has no charge for monthly payments

The rate on the card is 14.99 and the school does not charge and interest rate - just a small setup fee through Sallie Mae to set up a payment plan. Even with putting the 700 toward her tuition, I'll still have to set up a payment plan, it will just make the monthly payments smaller.

I really can't think of any other way to help her, but this card is going to be suicide if she gets it in her hands - she thinks she's got life figured out.
Any suggestions?

Well my daughter just turned 18 this month and BOA was at her college encouraging students to apply for their student card. This is a kid that is not really financially savvy and despite my discussions NOT to apply for the card, she did. Fortunately, the card was mailed home and not to a campus address. I have put the card away and in a couple of week when her payments need to begin on her Spring 09 tuition I'll activate the card and use the entire CL of 700 towards hers tuition. Since I was going to pay this portion of her tuition anyway, I'll just pay the bill for her until she is working full time during the summer. There is no point in her ruining her credit buying pizza and the Ugg boots she wants. She's going to VERY upset, but it's for her own good.

My oldest son even talked to her and shared his experience with his first credit card and how it's taking him a looooonnnnnnnnggggggg time to get his stuff together. How he went from being able to walk into carmax and drive out with no money down (just tax and tags), with no cosigner to the point he's at now. She still didn't listen.

I told her she has trouble paying her cell phone bill, her response was she can use her credit card to pay her bill and just pay BOA like 20 per month - she just doesn't get it.

I am waiting until next year to do any kind of applications for a credit card. I hope that the economy will be better.

Thomas1 had a virtual gun to my head. It was not my fault. It was death or denial, so I choose denial. :innocent:
