Great question PATSE. A higher credit limit helps your credit score because it helps your utilization rate (amount you have outstanding divided by your total credit limit). This utilization rate has a pretty strong effect on your credit score and it is recommended to have around 10% to 30% utilization rate. Using your credit cards actually helps your credit score (and as long as you pay off your credit card each month!) I would never recommend calling your credit card company to lower your limit. Overall, focus on your utilization rate, and not your total limit.
I hope this answered your question, let me know if you have any others.

What affect does a higher credit card limit have on your credit score? If you don't use the limit ever because it's too high, would you consider contacting the credit card company and asking them to lower it? Would this help your credit score?
