Does anyone know if USAA has a back door number? I recently got declined for their rewards cc but reading all these posts gives me hope that they will say yes if I could just plead my case....

Understand your frustration as I have USAA Master Card and a USAA American Express Card that serve me well. Tried for CL increases (without hard inquiries) and have never been able to get in the backdoor. I will say they are conservative with credit line increases. Talked with them and virtually all CLI requests will be hard pulls. As to a backdoor telephone number, never could find one. They are tight on this. Tried to talk the customer service rep into putting me through but no go... all messages etc had to be explained to the rep who talked with the credit analyst.

Leo, it won't hurt your score in the long run because the credit history of the account will stay on your reports for 10 years and continue to be factored into your FICO score with the rest of your accounts.

Hi all,

Havent been around for a while, i was reading this old thread about Orchard bank, and i decided to call mine and close the account! Mine was actually a secured mc that I have had for 2.5 years. It served its purpose by helping my credit, but they wouldnt unsecure it, which was really frustrating. I would call every 6 months, and they would give me the runaround that I needed to have patience and it would become unsecured. I realized when I talk to them today that wasnt happening anytime soon, and that they periodically check accounts. They did offer me half my annual fee to stay aboard which I respectfully declined, and they guy seemed pretty annoyed. Well lets hope it doesnt effect my score to bad, as i still have my amex and hooters and best buy.

I wouldn't close the account. If you have better cards, stop using the Orchard Bank card and use the better cards. The best revenge is to keep the card open and buy a pack of gum or a bottle of water on it every month. That will give them hell because it costs them money to keep an account open and when you use it to make small purchases like that, they don't make enough profit to cover that cost. Also, technically, they can't close your account because it's not inactive as long as you use it at least once a month. The only thing they can do is lower your limit from $300 to $100.

1. HSBC (including Orchard) closes accounts for 3-6 mos of inactivity. IMHO, it is better when credit card closed by consumer, than it shows that credit card closed by credit grantor.
2. What's wrong with closing accounts? It does not have direct effect on FICO, it stays on report for 10 years, keeping AAoA. A score might go down in 10 years when closed account falls off of report. So, I would not close the oldest account, all the rest does not matter.

The reason why I recommend not closing accounts is because you don't gain anything out of closing an account. Having an account with some history is worth keeping open because it looks good on your reports and also raises your credit scores.

Lmao, you are crazy for that, but the cold part about it is that it is true!

Back-door or front-door, it doesn't matter with Orchard, they are tripping regardless (along with a lot of others) . I have not received a cli from them in so long until I just stop asking altogether. I remember one time when I tired to get a cli from Travelocity and was denied as usual, I called back through the automated service and selected to close the account. That machine came back with, "Just cut the card, and you have no more use of the card...blah blah blah. I was like "Whhhaaaaaaat!" are you serious. So I called back and lied to the rep and said it was an accident, then she reopened it back up...lol.

Well.....Ive had an Orchard Bank Platinum card for a right at a year now with no late payments & always pay 2-3 times the minimum payment. I called the backdoor number 1-800-395-6090 & got a woman that didnt care if I kept my Orchard card or not. I had her place me on hold & verify that it was a soft pull, she returned & said that it was a soft pull, less than 30 seconds later she told me that I was declined for a CLI.I told her that I would pay off the balance & not use the card anymore,I was asked by her if I wanted her to cancel my card right then. She didnt give a damn if I stayed an Orchard customer or not.Im seriously thinking about calling back in a couple of days & canceling the card if they dont think anymore of me than that.I was also asked where I got the number from & wwas told that I need, from now on, to call the number on the back of the card.I didnt tell her where I got the number.Im through with my venting,I havent posted yet,but this ticked me off

I know that when I canceled my first Orchard Bank card, it was closed with no questions asked. I closed it on the weekend around 11pm CST. I canceled my second Orchard Bank card on a normal weekday during normal business hours. I was first sent to a save desk. The people at the save desk were native english speakers and tried to waive my annual fee, give me account credits, etc. When I declined them all, the warned me that my credit score would be negatively affected. I still closed my acct. I had a super low credit limit, a high interest rate, and an annual fee. The card was useless to me as I was able to get Bank of America cards, etc.

If you really want to play the system, get xfered to the save desk and then have them give you an annual fee credit or any other credit you can barter out of them. Tell them that you will only keep your card if they give you x credit for y reason. Wait a few days, call in again, and demand you card be closed.
