shark6's review: Callout Comment My daughter applied for the Dillards card. Her FICO is high 680s, no baddies and her credit file is about 1yr old. She has the Green Amex, BOA, Cap1, JcPenney etc.

I know that Dillards is notorious for their small limits so we were hoping that she would get AMex because she has no baddies but we were prepared for a regular Dillards with a limit of around $750.

She got approved for the Amex with a limit of $1500 at Tier 4 which is 19.99%.

I have two Macy's and my mall has both Dillards and Macys. I must say that Dillards bar none has the best shoe selection of the two, however, Macy's quality and trendinness of their clothing beats Dillards.

In my area, Dillards has the largest selection of upscale hand bags. My only gripe with Dillards is that they don't offer coupons except the reward certificates or the once in a while $10 discounts that they send out. However, their extra 30% off pink ticket sales are too die for.

OTOH, Macy's constantly sends me out coupons, 20% all day passes and routinely have an extra 15% off if paid with a Macy's card.

Conclusion: One must have both cards.

I believe that they will pull Equifax but will have to wait and see. I'm holding out for DH to get Norstrom as they closed our account several years back due to non usage.

Remarks Congrats to your daughter on getting approved for this card. Her credit file is almost as old as mines. My credit file is 1 year and 1 month old to be exact.

It's great that she got approved for the AMEX because now she can use it in more places other than Dilliard's.

There aren't too many Dilliard's out here in Southern California so I don't think this card is right for me. On the other hand, I love shopping at Macy's whenever I have some extra money to spare. I love buying Ralph Lauren colognes, their polos, and Tommy Hilfiger isn't bad either.

Remarks Ok guys, this is twice that I have seen mentioned D&G Light Blue and Ralph Lauren. I may have to ge the DH those brands. I just got him Tommy Bahama Very Cool last month.

Dillards is mainly a southern states store. They like to consider themselves on the upscale side. I have Macy's and like you I love them even though I don't charge alot. They sure do keep me stock with the coupons. I have one Red Star card and oneGold Card. I'm trying to make Platinum which you have to spend $1k a year.

You get more benefits with this upgrade like free gift wrap etc. I'm thinking about applying for Bloomingdales but I'm afraid they may deny me. I have scores around 630.

One more thing, it seems that Dillards may be more generous with their credit line if you apply in store.

Remarks I have that cologne also. It smells great but Ralph Lauren Polo Blue has to be the best cologne hands down. I have not seen any female dislike that cologne. If they do, then they might have something wrong. I always wear it when I go out, it attracts a lot of attention, believe me!

Shark6, Macy's is very generous with their CLI's. It's pretty hard to top their service. I used to spend a lot at Macy's but now that I have my own expenses, I barely shop there unless I need cologne or a date that night. It's a win-win situation because you get rewarded for just doing your regular shopping while building your score and credit report.

Dillards AMEX User Icon on 2008-07-06

Remarks Ive been wanting this card for awhile now... Im not a real big Dillards shopper. We have both JCP, Macy's and Dillards at our mall here and I like Macy's better hands down. Im afraid that if I applied for the Dillards Amex Id get the regular card with a $150 limit. My little sister has the Dillards AMEX and she loves it...$4k limit.

Dillards Amex- No AF User Icon on 2008-07-07

Remarks The best thing about having the Dillards Amex is that you get a bit of the prestige of having an AMex but you don't have to pay the $95 fee. There is no AF with this card.

Also, you get 2pts for each dollar spent at Dillards and when you get to $1k, you get $10 certificate to spend in the store.

When you charge $1k on the card in one year, you get upgraded to the Elite card which is black and you get a few more perks. I also know that every year around Dec, Dillards reopens their stores after 6pm for their best customers and offer piano, hors o'deurves, gifts, and shopping at your leisure. I had thepleasure of going to one and it was top notch.

Their customer service imo, is better than Macys but Macy's has better coupons and savings.

Remarks So we get the Dillard's Amex in the mail today and to our surprise, the limit was not $1500 as told to us in the store and on the instant approval receipt, it was $2300.

That was a nice surpise- $800 more than we were first told. It also came with a promotion running from July 4 to Oct 31that points would be doubled when earned during this period.

In addition, the 2 $10 reward certificates also arrived.

Nice!

Remarks Shark6, congrats on your new card! I know that you are going on a shopping spree with your new Dilliard's AMEX card. If only Macy's approved me for their Macy's Visa. Lol

I'm On A Mission: No Card Usage: User Icon on 2008-07-15

Remarks HJM331, You will get it soon. Don't feel bad, I have 2 Macy's store card from 1996 and 1997 and I had only requested a CL! 2 xs, 1 time last month, and 1 time last year and besides that, they only increased me automatically 1 time.

However, now that I know that I can call every 3mths, I will be calling and asking for CLIs.

To be told, I shop more at Macy's but only the clearance/sale racks and I must have a coupon to use. Bottom line, I like nice things but I never pay full price.

Dillard's imo has the best designer purse and shoes selection as well as customer service. Their shoe department is AWESOME! Macy's imo, has the better clothes selection and kids clothes.

RE: Shark6 User Icon on 2008-07-15

Remarks The things that I buy from Macy's are clothing and cologne. I used to shop A LOT at Macy's about 3-4 few years ago. I probably shop there once every 2 months or so now since I'm on a tight budget. I do like to look and smell great for the ladies out there so I might as well take advantage of the fact that I can do my regular shopping and build my credit at the same time.

My favorite brands for clothing are:

Ralph Lauren

Tommy Hilfiger

Nautica (somewhat)

Sean John

Ralph Lauren clothing rarely goes on sale but I still buy them at regular price once in a while.

Remarks

Dillards will give you nice increases if you ask and I drive 100 miles one way to go there... So I make sure I tell them that over the phone. You can ask every 3-4 months... Dillards has wonderful men's clothes also... Macys I've had since 1997  (sorry not Macy's-Foleys-it's inTexas) Macys bought them out. I think Dillards has a higher quality of merchandise... But I love stores that give coupons and Macys does that...

I want the Dillards American Express also.

I also love Dolce Gabana Light Blue... I 'm going to buy it next time I'm at Dillards.

Remarks HJM331, Dillards is geared more to the older, upscale customers and Macy's is more trendy, youthful.

However, imo, Dillards customer service is bar none above Macy's.

OTOH, I spend more at Macy's because the stock is better displayed, I hate shopping on crowded racks, and Macy's give me lots of luv with coupons. I get most of my clothing from Macy's. I use to have a Hecht's card but Macy's bought them out so that is how I have 2 Macy's.

Dillards, shoes, and mens clothing as well as designer bags are very deep and extensive as well as good quality.

You like Ralph Laurne, knock yourself out as those Polo shirts are around $70 a pop.

From your list, you sound like you are laced up pretty nicely.
