The additional taxes and out of pocket expenses makes it very difficult to compete. I think a lot can be done by the government to help self-employed individuals.

Anyway, I agree with Chris you have to really identify the pros and cons as many people think being self-employed and being your own boss is the best option. It is not for everyone.
