Mines is on a sliding scale according to our income, but if I have to pay when I did not have to then my kids will be in a private school.

Due to budget concerns-SCHOOL WILL NOT START MONDAY IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY.
In the words of 9th District School Board Rep Dan Schlafer, "a line has been drawn in the sand." At a special called Friday meeting, the Board of Education voted to delay the opening of Cumberland County Schools indefinitely until the 2008-09 school budget is resolved. Director of Schools Aarona VanWinkle reported that earlier this week, Cumberland County Commissioners on the Budget Committee sent the proposed $48.6 million budget back to the BOE for a trim of $5 million. The DOS stated that in order to make the cuts, educational programs and most likely positions would have to be cut back. After much discussion, a motion was made by Rob Safdie and seconded by Dan Schlafer to remove $2 million dollars from the school fund balance to partially make up the deficit, with the county making up the $3 million difference. That motion passed unanimously. A second motion was made by Safdie and seconded by Mary Smith to delay the opening of schools until the problems with the budget are ironed out. The motion passed 6-3, with Safdie, Smith, Brian Houston, Gordon Davis, and Chair Shirley Parris voting for. Ricky Smith, Orville Hale, and Victor Randolph voted against the motion. Dan Schlafer, who originally passed, changed his vote to yes, and he and several BOE members said that they were totally offended being placed in the situation by the county. Cumberland County Schools will not start on Monday, however the Meet the CCHS Jets and Elementary Jamboree will go on as scheduled Saturday
(this was the last sports related thing that will be done until school starts)

It all makes sense now. He went and invaded Iraq for the oil and brought it here so he can jack the gas prices here and fatten his pockets. That's pretty low. :upset:

Wow, that is new to me, i never heard of a school not starting because it has no money:confused: How in the world do they expect for them to learn. All this lottery money floating around here, you would expect for them to have something. I can understand the reason why they dont let kids go to summer school because of low budget, but regular school session, give me a break. "No child left behind," pull the trigger.

hey im here :white-flag:im just trying to get over the shock right now. My daughter was supposed to start school Monday and they cancelled it because there is no money to budget the schools so they dont know when school is gonna start or if it starts at all. :upset: i am so mad because they had all summer to come up with the money and so they are using the snows days they have for this winter which is like 13 days and when they use these up then they have to go to school longer in the summer:upset:. also way to go mike and all the faithful FG members for making us #1
