I too received my cap1 in 10/08, from The initial cl of 300 to 750 came in may 09. I was really shocked when I got another cli in July which increased to 1,000.00, this was not supposed to happen until sept, 09...will see if i get another one. I never called any numbers to request a cli on any of my cards, especially gemb....they have lost their minds. If this helps, I live in Oklahoma, not sure if demographics play a roll or not.

I have received the credit steps letter. How often do you get a cli, it is just 1 or 2 or 3 times. I Have heard a lot of good things about cap 1, especially on myfico.

I got approved for my Capital One card on 10/08, got my first credit step increase 1/09 and my next one came four months later 5/09 i hope that help.

I'll reiterate my previous remarks. Now really isn't the time to ask creditors for an increase unless you are fairly certain that it will be approved, meaning your overall utilization is low, no lates, baddies, etc. Some people who have/did had their lines decreased or accounts closed. IMO, if you're in the rebuilding phase, I would be very cautious. You do not want them to think you're desperate. As we say in the dirty south, Be Easy!

I do not know the specifics to be honest. Can someone familiar with credit steps chime in please?

I believe you are good with the credit steps, but as Meya said, Capital One and other banks are really temporarily ceasing CLI (of course there are exceptions). But you will still get yours with credit steps.

First get your credit steps rolling, that is the main part. Cap1 has shut us down over here in the West Coast. We are not getting any cli's and some are not even getting approvals

No love over here on the east coast either.....

It is unsecured and yes I have the capital one card and have had it for 2 months now. I was reading in the forums that if your annual fee was waved you won't get that increase after making your first three or four payments on time. Have you heard that?

I have not heard that about the credit steps, but people have not been talking about it much lately so it could have changed. When you received your Capital One card, did you get a credit steps letter? From what I understand, the CLI's with credit steps are automatic as long as you stay under your limit and don't fall past due.

I have an orchard with a limit of $300 and I pay off the balance every month I've only had it for 3 months now. How long do you think it will be before they give me a credit increase on their own?

I think if you've only had the card for 3 months now, it's still way too short. Try waiting between 6-12 months from the 1st statement. Or try what HJM said and call the backdoor number and see if there's anything they can do....

Is it secured? Orchard bank cards never become unsecured. I have read here from a few people with Orchard/HSBC cards that they have had some success after a year.

Have you looked into a Capital One card with credit steps?

I haven't heard of too many people receiving CLI's on their Orchard Bank credit cards. It would be a good idea to call their backdoor number and ask for a CLI.

Normally, I would agree with you Thomas1, but I wouldn't request any increases right now, unless I absolutely needed to. The banks are so iffey right now. You don't know how they're going to react. I'd rather be safe than sorry. A lot of people have asked for increases and ended with their lines decreased or account closed

Exactly. They are treating all customer service contact with a cardholder as an opportunity to close an account it seems. It is best to lay low for now for everything. CLI's, conversions etc. should wait now.
