My advice to you, is to let your accounts age for at least 6 months or longer. It's just going to look like you are desperate for credit. That is a red flag for a lot of CCC's. Get some payment history with the cards that you have. Keep your utilization of all your cards down, under 35%.

Hi Meya ,
I just wanted to let you know that I went to the link that you provided me for Bank of America card and I was pre approved and got three offers from them. I deceided to go for THe Platinum Plus card with a $2,000.00 limit . Thanks for the advice. I got approved at the end Aug.
I was turned down for pre approval for AMEX.

I went on the HSBC website today and was preapproved for the HSBC Master Card with Cash Back but was afraid to accept because I had just gotten approved for the Bank of America. Do you think it is too soon to apply for another. Please advise.
Thanks,

Debbie

Since you do not have many credit cards, creditors will look at you as "fresh meat" and some creditors are afraid to go first (in your case someone has) but the history of your credit report is not long. I would say try Capital One, Hooter's, some dept store cards, or Discover. Watch out for te inq's, they can step in the way of approvals. Here is a nice link to take a look at https://www.financeglobe.com/SocialNet/forum/showthread.php?t=361&highlight=nice+cards+apply

You have nice scores for such little history with a derog on you. Like Shark6 said, it is a shocker that Chase shot you down. Applying for a teir one secured card may be the best for you since you already have a nice card. Bofa will be the best place to start. Before you go any further, try running these two preapproval sites that will not put a hard inq on your cr.

1. Amex https://www201.americanexpress.com/cards/Applyfservlet?csi=0/0/b/510

2. Bofa https://preapproved.bankofamerica.com/cc/SelfInquiry.aspx

Let us know of your results. We will be right here to help you out.

HSBC's pre-approval site is very nice because it tells you what card you have a chance at getting approved for instead of applying for the wrong card.

Cellular phones don't report to a credit bureau unless you break your contract or don't pay and then they report as a collection. They do look at your credit to decide if to extend you a contract but they don't report monthly.

Meya provided some links above where you can apply for Cap1, HSBC, BOA using their pre-selector link which only does a soft pull to see if you qualify for any of their credit cards i.e it won't show up as a hard inquiry on your report that stays 2yrs.

Click on those links, apply and tell us what they say. This is where I would start for now.

Before you do, go back and re-read what I said, Meya and HJM said, then click on the links and apply.

Unicorn, if you applied for a cell phone service that doesn't check your credit report, they will not report to your credit report. Pre-paid cell phone companies usually do this including Boost Mobile, Helio, AT&T's GoPhone, etc.

Now, if you don't have any credit cards, it's going to hurt your credit score. Do you have any credit cards? It will hurt your score a little bit by having new accounts and inquiries but it will hurt more if you don't have any credit cards reporting to all 3 bureaus.

Thanks for the info. I applied for Chase Freedom twice and was denied. I also applied for a cell phone with out a contract and was approved in March. I am paying 52.50 a month but don't see it on my credit reports. I don't have any store cards. I am actually afraid to apply, because I think it looks bad to apply for a lot of cards and line of credit at once. Do you think it is okay to do so at this time? ( The Store cards)

Thanks again.

Your scores are good so I'm not sure why Chase denied you. Which specific Chase cards did you apply for?

Seeing that TU is your highest scores (unfortunately, not many people pull Transunion) if you get a WAMU pre-approval, I would apply but you have to wait to get one.

I would urge you to review the credit status and reviews on this site and the credit pulls on creditboards dot com credit forum. They have collated info from people who applied for certain cards and it has info as to their scores, which state they are in and which bureau pulled their cards.

If someone can provide the pre-selector link, you can see if their are in pre-approved offers out there for you from Cap 1, HSBC or Bank of america.

I would be very judicious about applying for credit as you don't want to rack up too many inquiries, however with your scores, you should be able to get Bank of america, Citibank, and definitely Cap 1 or HSBC.

Do u have any store cards? with Equifax, WalMart, JCPenney should be easy. Experian is the granddaddy of them all so try to keep inquiries down and chose carefully cards that pull from this bureau. Experian doesn't delete their own momma. Macy's is a good card to try for. They pull Ex, small limits at first but you can call every 3mths for a CLI.

The key thing here is to research the database here and ask before applying.

If you are applying for a store card, it is better to apply in person as we have anecdotal evidence that you are more likely to be approved based on identification and more likely to get a higher limit.

Good luck.

Hi, I am new to this website I just wanted to ask what credit cards are good with a credit score of 694 on Transunion and 677 on Experian and Equifax.
I am slowly rebuilding my credit, I have on derogatory item that is set to fall off at the end of the month.
I have 5 inquires on Trans Union. I applied for a Mypoints Visa Card in Apr of 08 and got approved without any finance charges till sept with a $1000 limit, the APR will go up depending on my credit. It could be any where from 15.8% highest 25.8%

I applied for two Chase Visa cards and was denied.

Would it be okay to apply for others or should I wait? Does any one know why these credit scores vary so much?

Thanks,
Debbie
