Remarks Sorry to hear that, but it seems to be the trend upon a lot of us. Banks are decreasing credit lines like crazy for either not using the card, because they aren't making the money they need, or if your FICO score decreases.

Market is so volitale right now, and until it corrects itself, this is going to be the norm, and will affect even the best of us.

I would call them up and speak to a supervisor. May not do any good, but worth a try. Its not like you can close it either since this account has aged and would hurt you even more if you closed it. Good Luck!

Reducing CL User Icon on 2008-09-22

Remarks Target is well known for reducing CL and even canceling cards due to inactivity. I got a $2500 CL Target card in July 2006 but used it just once. After 18 months, my account was closed. I called to ask and they said they cancel cards after 13 months of inactivity and I will have to reapply. They didn't send me any warning or any letter saying I should use it! I said no thanks and had the account closed.

Target is notorious for that. Keep using your cards once every 6 months to keep them running.

Whaaaat? User Icon on 2008-09-22

Remarks You mean to tell me that Target will cut a credit line? People had to climb Mount Everest just to get a lousy $300 cli from them. They have nerves to cli you. What did they cut the limit down to Kiejon9? I would call them up and let them have it, they act like they are Amex or something. That is just straight cold blooded. By the way, Mary Tomkin mentioned this in her article, take a look at it:

Get The WAMU Instead User Icon on 2008-09-22

Remarks Why not get the Wamu with a $25,000 limit instead since you're pre approved with them..

that will definitely take care of the CL decrease that you got from Target.

Remarks I agree with Mark about getting the Wamu with that credit line of 25k. It will help re-coup the loss of credit from Target by a long shot.

But, if you decide to do it, do it quickly before Target sends in their tapes to the bureaus which will show the decrease. The decrease may not even hurt you if you have plenty of available credit.

Depending on how long you've had the Target account open, I would tell them to take a flying leap!

Remarks Target Redcard is bogus indeed.

I'm still at $200 CL, are you kidding me???

I wonder if they will reduce my $200.00 limit to $50.00!

Royal Mess!! User Icon on 2008-09-24

Remarks What a royal mess. I guess everyone's running scared at the whole $700B bailout and wonder since we the taxpayers are picking up the tab, maybe the banks are wondering, if the Citizens will be able to afford a box of corn-flakes, since we are required to bail out Wallstreet? Maybe they think we wont be able to pay our credit card bills and want to "lessen" the blow if that's the case. Hot mess!!!

They may be decreasing CL's for this reason alone.
