baystate's review: Callout Comment I had the Chase Circuit City Visa since May08. I had heard of others converting their CC cards to different Chase products, and since Circuit City was doing so poorly I figured it was a good time to try and change.

My first attempt was a call to the "Chase Product Change" department and was unsuccessful. They told me that this card could not be converted. After having read a few stories on other forums, I decided to try again but this time using the standard 1-800 customer service number. This time Chase said "no problem" and that they would convert my account today and to expect a new card and account number within 5-7 days. After I got off the phone, I pulled up my account on Chase.com and it was already changed, the account heading updated as ChaseFreedom.

They stated that it was a good move because the interest rate is much lower and still maintains no annual fee. I was very, very happy with the outcome here.

Way to go Chase!! I also have my car loan with Chase and they gave me a rate that was 1% lower than BOA (5.99% versus 6.99%)

Remarks I've noticed that Chase is pushing the Signature version, did you keep Platinum status or were you upgraded to the Signature? Account number still the same?

Change From Chase Circuit City Visa User Icon on 2008-09-07

Remarks The account number will be new. They did not specify if this was a Visa Signature, but from what I've heard they generally do not issue that for conversions. They seem to issue the standard platinum.

This is fine with me; Circuit City is on the brink of bankruptcy and I would be surprised if they made it til the end of the year.

I wanted to convert the card as quickly as possible!

Selling Info To 3rd Party User Icon on 2008-09-07

Remarks Also if you have any card with Chase make sure you tell them you don't want your info shared with 3rd party. I got things that look like its from chase with logo and name, even the address says chase. I don't understand why chase aligns itself with some of these bad outfits. This just keeps you from receiving anything from them. Congrats on the conversion.

Remarks On your card! This is a nice card to have! I am thinking about converting this card to my Amazon.com Visa card. My limit for the the Freedom would be better served on the Amazon card. THey probably will not do it because I have both.

Chase User Icon on 2008-09-08

Remarks I could see why the account number would change. I don't know what the BIN (first 6 digits of the account number) was for the old FNANB Circuit City accounts. Chase will issue you a 4266/4417 for Platinum or a 4147 for Signature. Keep us posted as to what you get.

Changed From ChaseCircuit City Visa User Icon on 2008-09-08

Remarks I will post the type of card once received. Hopefully it will be the platinum card so the credit line will be reported correctly to the CRA's.

Update On Chase Freedom Upgrade User Icon on 2008-09-15

Remarks I received the new Chase Freedom card today and as I suspected, it's the standard Platinum (non-signature) version of the Freedom card. Should report normally to the CRA's with the credit limit.
