danny's review: Callout Comment I have had one account since 2004 and a second account since 2006. I started both of these out with a $300 limit and after a few on time payments got bumped to $500 on each. Since then they have refused to grant me a credit limit increase. Always denied. Today I called and asked for one again. Still a no go. I then asked if they offer account combination like I hear some banks doing now. They advised me they do and they agreed to merge both my accounts into one. I picked the account with the lower APR of course. 10.35%. The other was 14.35%. So they merged the balances and now I have a $1000 limit with 10.35%. Not bad. I think they won't grant me an increase because my balance is always near the max. But this is good for now and that’s another card I can cut up. I also like the fact you can choose your own picture on the card online as well. Btw Capital One only lets you have two accounts with them.

Remarks I hope you kept the account that you opened in 2004. If not, then your score will take a hit since it has been open for 4 years and it has been closed.

Remarks It was the 04 that was closed but ironically the only negative credit on my report besides the discharged bk from 2000 and two paid off medical collections is a nasty charge off from Capital One that was paid in 2001 scheduled to be deleted in June of 2009. So next summer my score should rebound. I don't plan on taking credit until the deletion next summer anyway.

Remarks My brother has had this card since 2002 and is still sitting on $500! Yes 6 years later and still at $500 and he has never been late on any payments in his entire life on any cards or loans. The only reason he is keeping his card and because this is the oldest card he has. Capital One is good for those trying to rebuild credit or starting out. For those who have established good credit, I find them mostly junk.

Their No Hassle Cards are slightly better. I have the No Hassle Card since 2003 and I am sitting at 6.3k. Their rewards program is at best not simple. I prefer HSBC over Capital One.

Cap One Turnover User Icon on 2008-08-09

Remarks I have heard this same thing from tons of people and I even had issues with them. Capital One for the past few years has been very careful with credit limits and rarely approves requested increases. They even say that the customer service reps cannot override them.

Capital One has a high turnover rate with customers; people rarely keep a Cap One card longer then 5 years. I have had mine for over 10 now and they treat me like gold. I had been sitting on a $9700 limit for a few years and had tried to get an extra $300 for at least two years and they wouldnt budge, but this year they finally did it when I asked. My advice is to keep your Cap One for many years and it will benefit you.

Remarks Interestingly, that's the same story I heard about Cap One... I've had mine since April 08... Started out at 1k, then bumped up to 4.5k

Called a few weeks ago and was told nothing available on my account. I said ok, and hung up!

They are also leary of this economy and credit freeze.
