brian23's review: Callout Comment So, I got the infamous MasterCard with the 300 CL and 79 AF. I did just like everyone told me and I simply called customer service to complain about the annual fee and low CL. Well, after being shuffled around a bit, I finally spoke to a very nice lady who said if I didn't close my account she would lower my AF to 36 dollars and up my credit limit to 500. So I gave in and accepted, but I think I did alright?

Remarks Congrats Brian! Since $36 is less than half of $79 and you go t a cli I think you did great. I am waiting for mine to come in hopefull this week. I am going to try the same thing you did.

Remarks You did pretty well with the situation you were forced into. HSBC has tiers for this card. I have the "platinum tier" card and I was approved for $750 with no AF. Once I hit the one year mark in November, I will ask them to raise my $1k CL to $2k. If not, then I will cancel the card.

Thanks Everyone!!! User Icon on 2008-06-24

Remarks Thanks again everyone for the scoop on how to handle it. Rob, def try exactly what I did. If your firm enough, they will give in. I was shuffled through like 4 departments, but they gave because they quote on quote "didn't want to lost me as a customer." But definitely push the no annual fee and the higher credit limit. The lady on the phone was very nice and she gave in to my demands as long as I wouldnt close the account.

Remarks HSBC has a few different levels for this card. I have the Platinum version which didn't have an annual and was approved for $750 with scores in the mid 600's. HSBC isn't very friendly with increases so don't count on it. It is a really good card to build/rebuild your credit with though.
