william59's review: Callout Comment I have this card for half year, and I am satisfied for credit line that BOA gave me ($5k). I often use it as everyday purchases along with my 2% cashback Orchard bank Mastercard. Although the APR is very high (18%), since I don't carry balance on this card, it doesn't matter to me.

Nice Card! User Icon on 2008-05-12

Remarks This is the card I am trying to get approved for due to rewards system. You receive 1.5 pts for every dollar you spend on this card as long as you maintain a checking account with BofA. Well, I have a BofA Student Visa, BofA AMEX, Checking, and Savings account with them so I hope I'm qualified for this card. I could really take advantage of the points system. Your APR is not that bad when you consider subprime rates from HSBC and Capital One. That is a nice limit though.

Stick With It HJM331! User Icon on 2008-05-14

Don't give up hjm331 it will come! I have racked up 39k worth of points using the card and look to move up to $43k with a CLI in August 08 I hope!  If I can do it starting with a basic BOA credit card with a $3k limit in 2003, surely your time is coming.

Remarks I started off with $750 on my BofA Student Visa last year. It will be one year old when June's statement cuts. I still can't believe that they approved me for the AMEX though. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the payment history on the student Visa. I will apply for the Americard next year and transfer some of my AMEX CL to the Americard since Visa is accepted in more places and I will be receiving 1.5 pts for every dollar spent when comparing to 1 pt per dollar on the AMEX.

Bankamericard Cli User Icon on 2008-05-16

Remarks Did it from the website, funny thing is I just got one in Feb 08. I was going to wait until August 08 and try again. Thing is as much as your income determines your cli, I think your history with the card as well as with the bank is the determining factor.

I charge $1000+ a month on my card and give them that in payments every month. Figuring that $1000 a month in charges will warrant a min payment of $80 and I give them 12 times as much, they see me as a good customer. Problem is, boa doesn't make any money off me either.

Keep at it hjm331. Maybe the bank wants more established history, or they might want to see a higher salary, I don't know. do whatever you have to or can to make your objective of getting this card a reality.

Remarks Did you have a relationship with BofA before applying for the Americard? If you did, how long?

History With BOA User Icon on 2008-05-17

Remarks

Started with BOA in 2003.  They issued me a Platinum Visa with a $3200 limit.  I kept that card HJM331 until I had a  $12,000 limit and I applied for the World Points Platinum Visa and was approved.  I had that card until I acquired a $17k limit and at this time BOA introduced the BankAmericard.  I was upgraded to the BankAmericard in Novemeber 2007.  In 7 months my CL went from $17k to $41k.

How active are you with your current BOA card(s) ?  Now maybe Eric can confirm or deny this but from what I have experiencd is if you charge a lot every month but at the same time pay all those charges off, you are actively engaged with utilizing your card.

The bank doesn't want to lose you as a customer, I don't care how big BOA is, you the customer are their foundation.  All they want to see is that HJM331 is using his card(s), making large or numerous purchases and being responsible in either paying it off in one billing cycle or within a reasonable time frame.  I know your trying to wait and show them that your a great customer but sometimes you have to be more proactive.  Go into an office, talk to a bank rep.  They will make the call and find out what can be done in your behalf to get you the card or help you to lay the foundation so you can acquire one down the road.

Remarks That's great advice man, I really appreciate it man! BofA is my favorite bank and they have some pretty good cards so that's why I heavily use my cards. Here's my history with BofA.

I opened a checking account with them 2 years ago and I still have it open.

Last year, I got approved for a student platinum plus Visa since I was still in high school. They approved me for a $750 limit and I asked for a increase and they raised my limit to $1,000. They haven't given me an increase since then.

Three weeks ago, I got approved for the BofA AMEX for $1,000 but I asked for a CLI upon activation and they raised my limit to $1,500. I have been using this card heavily since the day I got it in the mail and have racked up about 1500 points and my first statement closes in 2 weeks.

That's a great idea to talk to a credit card specialist at one of my local BofA brances and to see what I can do.

I was also thinking of calling them and having them do a manual review of my credit report and tell them that I need a Visa card with rewards since my rewards AMEX isn't accepted everywhere. That's my gameplan and we'll see what happens, I will update. Thanks for the help.

Its Your History Hjm331 User Icon on 2008-05-17

Remarks

I was reading your background with BOA and the only thing holding you back is not having enough history with the bank.  You have two great cards.   You just need to show probably a year's worth of good payment history and the card is yours.   What's even better is that your young.  Think about where you can be five years from now with a BankAmericard.  Your credit history will be so pristine that when you call the bank in regards to your card they will offer you all kind of specials, i. E. Personal Line of Credit up to the. Limit of your card, 12 month loans with apr's equal to half of what your apr is on your card, etc..

You left a post stating "aren't you lucky"  My friend, "aren't you lucky?"  Keep at it hjm331, one day at a time, one cli at a time, one on time payment at a time...

Patience Is Not For Everyone User Icon on 2008-05-17

Remarks Smcc, you're right. I will have to wait until time works it's magic but I'm not a very patient person when it comes to something I want. There's no way around it so I really have nowhere to escape. But you're right, since I'm young, I will have a great amount of history with BofA as I get older.

I am planning on applying with them for my student loan, next auto loan, and my future home loan as I know they will give me a great rate for being a long time customer with them. It's a win-win situation. Take a look at my credit card collection as I have achieved a lot for having a credit file only one year old.

AMEX Delta Skymiles Gold- $1k Limit (3-4 Months Old)

BofA Student Platinum Plus Visa- $1k (11 Months Old)

BofA AMEX-$1.5k (3 Weeks Old)

Capital One Classic Mastercard-#1.5k (8 Months Old)

Capital One Platinum Mastercard-$1k ( 1 Year Old)

Lowe's/GEMB-$500 (1 Month Old)

Orchard Bank/HSBC-$500 (7 Months Old)

Best Buy RZ Mastercard/HSBC-$1k Limit (7 Months Old)

Best Buy Store Card/HSBC-$1.6 (7 Months Old)

Guitar Center/HSBC-$1k (1 Month Old)

Macy's Store Card-$800 (6 Months Old)

ESPN/WaMu Visa-$2k (2 Months Old)

I will get rid of the Orchard Bank card when it hits the 1 year mark.
