rockin35's review: Callout Comment Okay, I'm not sure if anyone else has a Best Buy MasterCard, but I've had this card now for over a few years, I opened it during the holidays online. The limit was $300 and I was given a CLI sometime last year which has remained a constant $500. I asked for an increase today just to see what these folks would say, they told me I had to run a credit hit. I said "Thanks but No Thanks". I'm not sure, but am I to understand that HSBC does not raise limits, or is it that Best Buy is just a low limit card?... Baffled!!!? This is one of my accounts on the choppin' block anyway. Got The Store Card User Icon on 2008-04-20

Remarks I have the bestbuy store card.

initial limit was a $1000 then after 3 months, I clicked the increase credit limit tab on my statement on line and boom... It was changed to 3500.

i have friends who have the MasterCard, and yes, there complaints are the same as yours... Sluggish CLI.

have you tried applying for the store card instead?

Remarks I have this card also. My April statement will be 6th statement and I have a $1k limit. It's an alright card, it will be sockdrawered now that I have better cards.

The Best Buy store card is better in many ways. They're better with CLI's and faster reporting.

Agree With You Totally Rockin35 User Icon on 2008-04-20

Remarks I've had this card (Gold) since Oct 06 with an initial $300 cl. After 6 months it was raised to $400 and is currently at $600. What's worse is my card has an annual fee of $79 and a 15% APR. This is my oldest credit card account- on time, much more than the minimum monthly payments, with a current zero balance.

I haven't really used it to purchase anything at Best Buy other than movies or music- what else can you buy there with a $600 cl? They offer a rewards program for shopping anywhere else and you can redeem certificates to use at the store. I'm not clear whether they offer different levels of the card- I logged onto the website yesterday and the card image displayed had Platinum imprinted at the bottom of the card.

I agree with you Rockin35- this is a sock drawer card.

I Shall Retire BBMC User Icon on 2008-04-20

Remarks Yeah, then my decision is made. I'm going to retire this Best Buy Mastercard, It's not worth having on my credit report, just like the GE Moneybank Pay Pal account that I closed last week. All of my accounts that are recent and in 2 years with limits lower than a thousand dollars, I am closing them out. Right now I have 5 that fall into that cateogory that I am closing. Thanks everyone!! Rockin35!

I Agree! User Icon on 2008-04-22

Remarks Yeah this card belongs in the sockdrawere. My husband was offered this card in the summer and theyngave him $300.00. And it's still at that limit. HSBC I hear are stingy with CL.

Not HSBC User Icon on 2008-11-25

Remarks I have the BBMC and I have a regular card from HSBC. I have had the regular card since 02/07 and 03/08 I received an increase to $500 but I have had the BBMC over a year as well and not received an increase. The BBMC has always kept a lower balance and been paid off in full more months as well because of it's higher interest rate.
