Remarks I don't know what's up with GEMB but if you notice most people are starting to get larger credit lines with this card so keep pushing that love button.

Remarks They only increased that by $25 last night... Lol. I guess my cli's are increased by $25 more th an the last one hehehe. Its all good though, I have not been there in a minute and I need to put some type of charge on it before I get the boot. I am probably going to go and get the kids some new sheet sets for their beds.

Remarks Wal-Mart was notorious for their $75 limit a while back. Capital One use to do the same, but I think they've stopped that since they've started that 3 step program deal.

WHY STORE CARDS PEOPLE? User Icon on 2008-04-15

Remarks If you have a major card of any kind, my first advise

is to never apply or use store cards. They are the

worst. They lure people with that silly save 10 or20 percent off with first purchase. The interest rate is insane if you carry a balance. Even if you are trying

to establish credit, there are ways to achieve this without these type cards. You will never be able to work with them for better rates, only they might give you credit line increases, but what good is that in the end if the terms are bad

Store Cards Aren't That Bad... User Icon on 2008-04-15

Remarks Store cards are just as bad as any other credit card if used recklessly. I know many people that think it's crazy to use any type of credit card... Period. Why use credit and pay even 1% interest when you can use cash?

I think store cards hit you the hardest if you carry large balances over a significant period of time... But lets face it... It isn't a good idea to cary a large balance on ANY credit card over a long period of time.

Store cards are a good way to get credit, and they are very generous with CLIs, which helps utilization. They also offer good disconts.

Personally, I use the card for the discount, then pay the balance off right after I make the purchase. It has caused a few cashiers to sort of smirk... But whatever.

Store Card Use User Icon on 2008-04-15

Remarks I agree that Store Cards are no good if you carry a balance but they are easier to get and do build your credit, and the Walmart card is one of the better cards, especial for the 12 mos no Interest deals for purchases over 250 that is a deal most store cards cant beat, and if you pay it off in 12 mos then you've used someone else's money for 12 mos FREE, who can beat that? The only Store Card I've seen that is better is Best Buy and they Offer 18 mos no interest, but the deal is usually on certain purchases. Walmart is great in itself for the 3 cents saving on gas alone with the use of the card, at today's gas prices you can't beat that. So use the card to buy gas and then pay in full and build your credit along the way, that's what I plan to do. And a word to the wise if you do take advantage of the 12 mos. No interest, be sure to Sock Drawer the card after your purchase, because if you bay anything, and I mean ANYTHING after the no interest deal it will sit be hind the no interest purchase and build all kinds of interest for GE Money Bank, because it is common practice to apply payments to the debit with the lowest interest rate first.
