Remarks Congrats on the new CLI. That is one heck of a CLI. So far I've purchased about $120 worth of gift cards from them and paid in full both times also. What was the number that you called to get the CLI? I'm going to try my luck also. Lol

Remarks This has been my lucky month 1st AMEX now this :) I think I am going to cancel orchard bank. I have a secured card that for some reason they will not unsecure after 2 years. Called customer service spoke to mgt nothing. I cant see letting them hold 1000 of my money any longer. onlything I'm worried about is its one of my oldest accounts will that hurt my score a lot?

What! User Icon on 2008-02-08

Remarks 2 yrs, unsecured? Close it, they are wrong for that. They are making money off of you. Just imagine the apr and finance charge they put on your money for two yrs. I would not be surprised if they say it is going to take up to 60 days to receive your money back after closing it.

Remarks Mikey, hmmm have you been eating too Life cereal? Joke of course heheheheeh. I do not know what you would need a credit line like that for from Macys. I just don't belive in store cards. I have an office depot card and it has a $33,000 credit line. If I spend $50 there it is alot.

I think these store cards will hurt you on the new FICO 08 as your entire open credit lines will be considered on FICO 08. If you want other cards in the future like more Visa or Mastercards these store cards will have a negative impact on you.

Remarks Once again Im agreeing with Porgy (he's making a lot sense here especially as of late) Im steering away from store cards as much as possible. If its not one of the 4 major cards I don't want to apply for it. I do have 4 store cards... Walmart which I use every month, Target which I spend about $1k-1500 a year, Macy's where I buy my work clothes and American Eagle. My qualms about having a store card is that if you don't really shop there then why have your total available credit eaten up like that. Thats all lol

Hard Inquiry User Icon on 2008-02-11

Remarks So just got an alert that had a new inquiry and it was from macys! Don't they have to disclose if they do a hard inquiry?

Remarks I've never heard of this either. Do you think they did this just to check if you defaulted on anybody?

Hard Inquiry User Icon on 2008-02-11

Remarks Thats what you get with a store card. They may NOT run soft inquiries on you like a bank card does every one to 3 months, therefore, they do now know what you look like.

As I stated before, store cards like these are a good way to kill you scores. This is just another example of it besides the total utilization of credit. Your best bet is to avoid all store cards.

Remarks Im a current employee at macys and I have a pre-paid account. My credit was not good enough for a regular account. I must say, its the most amazing thing ever!!! There are no fees of any kind... No late fees, no over limit [50 dollars] fees. Even though it stops at 50 the will let me chrge up to 20 dallars over free of charge... Why even have account you ask?? Its the only way I can get my emplyee discount. I got my card in febuary and I called them in June to see if fell under the same guidelines regarding gli and was denied. But they did however send me a platinum card!!! Which is better cause now my coupons are higher in value and I get instant recognition when I take it out.
