mehlani's review: Callout Comment I've had my Orchard classic forever... Maybe like 6 years now. If you treat it right, your interest rate will be OK and the credit line increases happen once in a while. I got on the Orchard site and decided to try for a second one (this one) and was instantly approved. (I was kind of surprised). CL was $500, interest rate of ~14%. It even has one of those little microchips in it for the "pay pass" thing. I like this one better than the first Orchard I got because the fees are much lower (sorry can't remember off hand what they are). All in all, I'm still very happy with Orchard and their customer service has also been very good. I'm also glad that they are now HSBC because through my relationship with Orchard, HSBC has called me and refinanced my cars twice for me. (what a lifesaver!). Just an fyi though, you are only allowed -2- accounts with HSBC. I was only able to get the second Orchard card after I finished paying off the HSBC car loan.

Remarks Congrats on your new Orchard Bank card. I have one myself but I am going to closing it because I have other cards that have higher limits and I just don't have a use for it.

Remember, HSBC only lets you have 3 cards with them so 3 cards is the limit. If you have 3 cards with them and you apply for a 4th one, you would receive an instant denial.

Remarks You may be right. They said that I had reached the max number of accounts and I think they may have counted the car loan as one of them.

3 Accounts User Icon on 2008-02-07

Remarks That is correct HSBC will allow 3 individual accounts then give you a instant denial. AU accounts are NOT included in the 3 maximuns. If you have a car loan, a mortgage with HSBC it is considered an account and it counts towards your 3 max

More Than 3 Accounts Allowed User Icon on 2008-02-07

Remarks After reading the comments, some of you may be pleased to know that you CAN have more than 3 accounts, I have 4. 2 Discover cards, and two MasterCards. The key is that you just can't APPLY for them, they must be pre approved offers, which all of mine were. Just thought I'd pass that along...

Remarks This is what I was told when I was denied for the 2nd Orchard card. I was told that they have to be solicited for me to ahve two. I only have one with them and when I received an email to apply for the second Orchard, I was denied again because it did not come through the mail. Well I cant get preapprovals through the mail because I opt-out at all 3 cb's. Just want to put this word in to back you up. I was told the same thing.

Yes, But Only Two Cards.. User Icon on 2008-03-15

Remarks Yes, you can have up to two cards with Orchard Bank. I would apply like I'm a new customer if you already have one card. Wait for about six months before reapplying. Be sure that your score is at least 500, They will give you another card, but if you score is low they will offer you a secured card, for the 2nd card.

More Than 3? User Icon on 2008-03-22

Remarks I have an Orchard Bank Mastercard, HSBC Visa & a Best Buy Rewards Mastercard. I wouldn't mind having a 4th & final card with them. So do I have the max amount of cards that they allow?

How Many Card? User Icon on 2008-03-22

Remarks Well, I think you can only have two master/Visa with HSBC... If you have a store merchant card with HSBC... I think that's a litte different. You have have numberous store merchant cards that issues with the same bank... However if is a trademark Visa/MasterCard only... HSBC will only issue two cards max... Try giving them a call... With that general question...

good luck

Remarks Here is another thing about HSBC what a lot of us don't know... Because you have one card by them, you have to watch your credit report because all three will not have the same account number to each card. When some people apply for another HSBC card and already have one, they get the message, "Decline", because you already have the max amount of cards with them. Here is the reason why:

1. You were not solicited through the MAIL and

2. One or more of the CB's is not reporting the correct account number on your report which makes it look like there is more than one HSBC account on your credit file.

If you are really desperate for another Orchard or HSBC account, try to correct the two steps above and then try again. I only recommend Orchard accounts for those who are rebuilders or start ups, other than that, they are among the slowest cli's offerors in the credit industry and they are also stingy with it. I hope this helps!

Remarks I believe you when you said they have the slowest cli increase possible. I had one card w/300 limit for one year... They said no to my cli request because per my credit, I don't have accounts longer than a year and I'm close to my limit on other cards... Wow...
