mehlani's review: Callout Comment Why? Because mine is green with a lady bug on it. :) It took a while to get it, I tried twice. The first time I tried was about a year ago and I was denied. I think my credit score was under 600 at the time. I kept up on my other cards and sure enough, a year later, they sent me an invite to apply. Got approved right away with a $300 limit which was raised to $500 after a few months. So far so good. Annual fee of $39, no monthly maintenance fees. APR something around 14%. Pretty decent. If you were denied for this card, don't fret. Just give it a little time and it'll happen.

Remarks Mehlani, congrats on your new old Capital One card lol. I guess you took my advice a while ago. Now, all you need to do is stop applying for new cards because like I said before, here are the things that will hurt your score big time:

1)Too many inquiries in the past 12 months.

2)Too many new accounts in the past 12 months.

Just take my advice and you will be alright. Also, if you pay Capital One in full every single month, you should be able to get higher CLI's. Here's the "backdoor number" I was telling you about. 1-800-889-9939

How long has it been since your last CLI? If it has been more than 3 months, you should call the number above and ask for a CLI. I'm going to do that next month since I paid off a $900 balance in full in one month.

Hmmm... User Icon on 2008-02-06

Remarks As a matter of fact it's coming up about 6 months now since I've had it. I'm not sure if I'm due for another CLI but it wouldn't hurt to call would it? Thanks for the number...(going to laminate it so I don't lose it :) )

You Should Go For It. User Icon on 2008-02-06

Remarks Mehlani, when I called Capital One, they didn't mention anything about pulling a hard inquiry onto my report. They just checked if I had any offers for a CLI and I accepted whatever they gave me at the time. Anything is better than nothing right?

Remarks The good news is that when you call a bank for a credit line increase they seldom have to run a HARD INQUIRY on you. They do account renewals on your credit (soft inquiries) every month to watch your credit and scores. Therefore, they just look at that when you call in and there is NO NEED for them to pull a hard inquiry.

OMG!!!!!!! THANKS HJM331 User Icon on 2008-02-07

Remarks I followed your advice... Called the backdoor number today... A senior something something lol at Capital One answered the call. First thing I did was ask her to reverse the late charge from last month because I didn't receive the statement and missed the date by one day, and second, I decided to give it a shot and ask for a CLI. OMG! She gave me... a $4000 increase on my Cap One!!! I now my CL is $4500... And I've had the card for only about a year. Thanks so much John. You do not know how happy I am. This is the largest CL I have right now, more than all of my cards combined!

Remarks You are def so right on about the soft inquiry. The only thing she did was review my history with Cap One, low balances, always on time, and been with them since 2007. Thanks you guys!

$4,000 CLI?! User Icon on 2008-02-07

Remarks Wow, that is one heck of a CLI you got there. I wish I can get one lol Congrats on your new CLI though. I'm going to call them next month to see if I can get a CLI close to that lol

How much have you spent on that card so far?

Porgy, Capital One is cutting down on credit lines right? Who was right this time? I told you they base their CLI's on account history.

Remarks Thanks guys. I really haven't used my Cap One card all that much. Probably the highest balance I've carried on the card since I've had it was about $200 out of the $500. My minimum payments have been something like $15 a month. I make a payment of about $25 - $30 a month. So I keep an average balance of about $100 on the card.
