Remarks Was this one of those deals where you opened a checking account and they threw the credit card in?

What are you scores like? I know they look at Experian.

I have had my Chase MasterCard since 9/01 and they have given me some pretty decent CLI's. Went from $6,000 to $6,600 to $8,400 automatically. In 9/07 I logged on and requested a CLI and they approved it to $10,000-but they did a hard pull on my bureau.

Do you use this card alot? I would guess that with the economy and non usage they might not be giving CLI's much these days.

Re Credit Scores? User Icon on 2009-05-22

Remarks No this card was not part of opening a checking account, I had it before I opened a checking account.

my scores as of now are experian 731, equifax 735, transunion 731

i requested a cli I'm hoping they give me a large increase.

and yes I did use it a lot since it was my only 1, but stopped using frequently at the time I aquirred my Bank of America Visa.

CHASE INCREASE User Icon on 2009-05-22

Remarks Don't be surprised if the increase is small or denied. Although your scores are good, you recently got 2 new accounts.

Chase will certainly see that, and it may appear that you are seeking credit lately.

BUT, they should give you some sort of increase being that you've been a long-standing customer, and might think you will use their card less and less, now that you have others.

Let us know the outcome of their decision.

It will help others on this forum.

Good luck!

CLI On Chase User Icon on 2009-05-22

Remarks Chase usually does not give CLIs unless you have a lot of usage or you specifically ask for it. I have had Chase for over 4 years and it started with $3000. I am now at $15000 but I combined my two Chase cards and then asked them to double my limit 2 years ago which they did. They did do a hard pull. Chase is not in the business of giving CLIs without hard pulls if you ask for it. With the current economy the way it is, I am not at all surprised they have taken away the CLI feature on their website.

Agree With Ashes User Icon on 2009-05-22

Remarks You also have to remember that even though their name is Chase, it is still very much First USA/Bank One operating the credit card business after the merger.

All of my auto CLI's came to me when it was still Chase (before the merger with Bank One in 2004).

Keep in mind too that with the economy the way it is and with the new credit card rules going into effect I believe we might be seeing the end of huge credit lines.

Let us know the outcome of your request.

Credit Increase Of $500.00 User Icon on 2009-05-24

Remarks They only gave me an additional 500.00 for a total credit limit of $1200.00 I am very dissapointed, letter I received stated because of the economic crisis going on, and because I use my other cards more, oh and they have supposely given me the max bullspit! well I would use theirs if I had a better CL, should I apply for another MasterCard and close this 1? This is my oldest account...

Never Close Oldest Accounts User Icon on 2009-05-30

Remarks You should never close your oldest accounts even if the CL sucks. Keep the $1200 and use this card couple of times a year to keep it active. As a rule your oldest accounts should never be closed unless and until your overall age of credit is over 10 years. If all your cards are 10 years and older, close this one, otherwise, keep it in the sock drawer and don't bother with it. Chase likes to see heavy usage on their cards to give CLIs and that was in the good times. These days CLIs are few and far between. Don't close the account till all your other cards are well aged, 10+ years.
