Top Tips for Negotiating a Better Cell Phone Plan

Top Tips for Negotiating a Better Cell Phone Plan

With each passing year, it seems that cell phone plans change for the worse. While the company is the big winner, the consumer finds it difficult to get the service they need at an affordable price.

Does this sound familiar? If you find yourself in this position, here are several tips you can follow to negotiate a better plan:

1. Get on the Phone

As tempted as you may be to visit a local store, this typically isn’t worth the time and effort. In store customer service reps don’t always have the power they need to make a change to your plan.

It only takes a few minutes to make a call, explain your position, and attempt to negotiate a plan that better suits your budget and requirements.

2. Ask to Cancel Your Plan

Even if you have no intentions on doing so, this is a great way to tilt the scales in your favor.

By making this one statement, your call will be transferred to the customer retention team. These are the people who have the flexibility and power to offer discounts and do whatever else it takes to make you happy.

3. Try, Try Again

There is no guarantee that your provider will work with you to find a better plan. As disappointing as this may be, you aren’t out of luck just yet.

Rather than give up, wait a few weeks and try again. Also, just the same as buying a car, don’t hesitate to reach out at the end of the month. With a quota in place, you may find that the rep is more than willing to work with you.

If you aren’t happy with your cell phone plan, it may be time to put your negotiating skills to good use. One phone call may be all that it takes to get a better plan at a more affordable price.
