When does it make Sense to Switch Credit Cards?

In a perfect world, you will choose a credit card and enjoy its benefits for many years to come. For some, this is reality. For others, however, making a change at some point is a decision they have to make.

You don’t want to switch credit cards for no reason. Instead, you should only move forward when you are 100 percent sure that it is the right decision.

Here are three times when it makes sense to switch:

1. New fee schedule. Has your credit card issuer changed its fee schedule? Maybe your credit card has no annual fee right now, but this is about to change in the near future. If you are not comfortable with the changes, it may be time to look around.

2. Not getting the rewards you deserve. If you are going to use a credit card, you might as well get something in return. There are many reward cards to choose from, so compare you current offer to what else is out there. Are you missing the boat?

3. Bad customer service. This has nothing to do with the credit card itself and everything to do with the company. Do you wait on hold for an hour every time you call with a question? Do the customer service agents treat you poorly? Do they fail to answer your questions and address your concerns? You are a valuable customer, meaning you should be treated as such.

These are just a few of the circumstances that may lead you to consider a change. If you want to switch credit cards, do this first: compare your current card to what else is out there. Don’t make a final decision until you know that you can get something better.
