Danny23's Card Review:

I have a question, I just applied for the kay card since reading all the reviews about the approvals. So I got approved for 4000.00 limit, but does anyone know if they report to the cb?

They do report to the cb with your balance and limit, I have had this card since Oct 07, and was also approved with a 4k, it is a great card, but apr is high

Comment Title: What Is The Score Criteria? From LindaLu on 2008-09-10

What kind of score do you need to get this card? do you decline anyone? I don't want to apply for cards that I am not 80 percent sure that I can get approved... Is there anything on your credit report that would hinder an approval? Such as bk, charge offs, collections, or maybe even high utilization?

thanks guys!

Comment Title: Declined From Danny on 2008-10-14

Any suggestions?

I applied for this card online and was declined. When I got the denial letter it was advising the reason for the decline was due to a past due account. Apparently, Kay Corp. Owns Marks and Morgan Jewelers which I did have an account with them in the late 90's. I had declared bk on it. This was discharged in 2000 and the account is no longer on my credit report. I called the customer service number and they said they could not do anything because the application was already declined and recommended for me to go in the store and apply again? Doesn't make any sense. They want me to apply again and take another hit on my credit report for an inquiry only to be ashamed in person if they say declined it yet again. Any suggestions? Although I think I would probably pass on this.

This is weird, you should ask them to pull up the same app that you applied online with since it is the same company. They should have that on file. I don't think I would go with another hit from the same company, if you do, I would call the CB they pulled from and dispute one.

If they are making an issue over the old account, I would go to another jewelry store because the same credit department is going to look at the same thing.

Sorry to hear of your denial, and I want to see you with an approval. I suggest that you go to this link, where you can get more answers for this question.

I applied and was denied but I didn't take a hit on my credit report. As soon as my SS number came up they denied me for an old account with Leroys who they bought out awhile ago. You might want to check your credit report to see if you really did take a hit or not. They blacklist you if you have ever defaulted on any companies that worked with them.

I have yet to receive an alert from Mycreditkeeper from Kay's. If they do this to me, they can kiss me goodbye. I have never defaulted with anyone in jewelry.

My hit came from a company called 'Sterling', which is Kay's parent company.

They pulled Equifax for me here in NJ.

Sorry to hear about your denial. If Sterling if off your reports that's good. However, they internally on their computers will blacklist you, just like Amex does if you defaulted on any accounts that they own or have in the past.

I wouldn't worry about it too much as you had no idea of this, maybe you should just try Crown Jewelers if you are looking for this type of card to help your utilization, they will approve everyone. Just be careful to use it every so often, as they have a habit of decreasing limits or closing if you just let the account go dormant.

Take Care!

If the other company that you declared bankruptcy on is owned by Kay you have probably been black listed.

Don't waste another inquiry for a relatively useless card.

A lot of banks do black list prior debtors, especially since enough time has passed that you are eligible to file bankruptcy again (and believe me, a lot of people file multiple bankruptcies in their lives). They don't want to take the risk.
