Sintanjin89's Card Review:

Apparently Citi is a tough nut to crack. I have a two old baddies on my cr and was denied. Talked to cr and was told to submit my credit report with explanations by fax for them in order to be reconsidered. Not worth the trouble as I will wait for the baddies to drop off my cr.

The reason Citi can be difficult to get in with, is because of all the charge offs and delinquencies they faced in 2007-2009, and they are still trying to recover. Therefore they only take people with the best credit, you even have to have decent credit for their secured card.

This would open the door to Citi if you could get in. It took me several years. Maybe it would be worth the effort to get your foot in the door.

I dont have the best credit, but I do not have any "baddies" on my report and I just got approved for my second card with them all with my first one opened with them 5 months ago. They seem to like applicants who do not have any negative history, as most lenders now days.

Here is my info to get a better look at what you might need to get approved:

My scores:
equifax-697
transunion-713
experian-715

No negative info on my cbr. I have many lines of credit most of which are at a zero balance. 1 card with a $9,000 balance and an open auto with a 27k balance.

citi platnium credit line-$5,000
Citi AA Advantage american express credit line-$8,000

I would try again in 6 months. I have been very satisfied with Citi since my relationship began with them in Sept of 2011.

Wow we have the same scores. Ill try for a citi wihin a year or so, a relative got a pre-approval for the citi diamond and was still denied. So I agree that citi is a tuff one to get. As to Bc8787 thats great that you have a relationship wth citi. I'm consatntly getting pre-approvals from CITI they offer me their Platinum, Diamond, and Simplicity cards(very temtping) but after what happened to my cousin I will not apply until I pay off my all my debt.

I would agree, Citi is very fickle, I was VERY fortunate to recieve both my Platinum Select Master Card and Diamond Preferred when I did! They started me with a $1,500 credit line for both and the highest APR 21.99% to start! How old are your baddies? I have been told before they dont want too see any collections less than 2 years old, either paid or unpaid, and VERY sensitive to recent inquires! Wait 6 months and keep working at it, they are worth it trust me! ;)

When my dad got approved for Chase United Card and AMEX Gold on the same day. He decided to apply for Citi Thank you points card and got denied because for having to many inquries in 5 days. TWO to them is too much for reconsideration. He got a preapproval for Discover and got approved for 3k. He is getting alot of preapprovals Comerica, First bank of Omaha, Discover 3x after being approved. Citi needs to change their policy so they can have the business of people with good to great credit.

I meant 2 inquries in 5 days is to much for them and they wouldnt consider.

The one bad mark on my cr is 1 1/2 years old. I will wait two years before applying again. I applied for Discover ($4,500) Chase Freedom ($1,000) and Wells Fargo ($1,000) all on the same day and was approved for all (cr's in parenthesis) three except the Citi card. Three out of four ain't bad!!!
