Hadrad2001's Card Review:

This card started off at a BofA Secured Platinum Plus card. Opened as a secured card 12/2008, unsecured 12/2009. Product changed to the Amex early 1/2010 and approved after numerous attempts.

Received the card on 2/3/10 and have been enjoying the rewards points I've been accruing. No annual fee, interest rate stayed at 14%. It's a pretty-looking card, too.

I noticed that the CSRs greet me differently once the Amex was showing up instead of the Platinum Plus. This is probably a change in script that pops up on their computer depending on the card you have because I have definitely noticed the difference after a year with the Platinum Plus.

CONGRATS! Totally cool that you got the BofA Amex. What were your scores at the time (if you know) and credit line. It helps others to know whether they should go after something like it. BofA has been pretty tough lately so your news is good news!

TU was 710 and EQ was 690. Keep in mind that I got this card as a result of a product change and NOT as a result of a new application. I was not hit with a hard or soft inquiry when requesting a product change, nor was I required to speak to a credit analyst. Judging from posts on FG and myFICO.com, my experience is rare. Those were my scores at the time of graduation on my Platinum Plus.

I kept calling the toll-free number and was refused a product change. I was repeatedly transferred to the new applications # and told by CSRs they no longer do product changes. I was ready to give up until I tried for a product change via the online chat feature when you log in to your account at bofa.com. The online CSR said I was approved I should expect the card in 3-6 weeks. It took 3.5 weeks for me to get it in the mail.

Congratulations !!! When your card became unsecured. Did they increase your limit as well?

Unfortunately, they did not give me a CLI upon graduation and I didn't ask for one. I deposited enough onto the account to ensure that my secured credit limit qualified me for the Amex (I believe the min CL for the Amex is $2000).

I will ask for a CLI in 12 months. I don't want to push my luck and get a cranky credit analyst on the phone!

That sounds like a good idea! I wouldn't push my luck either with B of A. I made the mistake of asking for a CLI on my Visa once! They decided to cut my limit in half to $2500. I called them as soon as I saw it online. I talked to a credit analyst and they put it back to what it was before. It is amazing what they will do to good customers for no reason! However on behalf of B of A anytime something has happened with my accounts they have always corrected the error.
