Islander36's Card Review:

I got a pre-approval in the mail and decided to take advantage. To my surprise, I got this in the mail today which was 1 week after applying for this card. The credit limit was $325. This card takes a portion of the for the program fee. My available credit is 146.00 Not bad.

You were better off using your money for a secured card instead of throwing away your money with FP. When you pay all the fees for a FP card, you don't get any of that money back. But, if you open up a secured card, you will get your deposit back when your account graduates.

You do owe it to yourself to check out the secured cards from BofA, Citibank, Wells Fargo and US Bank (if you have not previously burned them). Also check out local credit unions and some of the larger national credit unions to see about a secured card from them as well. Like HJM said, once you've paid those fees you bascially did a "secured" card without the benefits. A secured card from the big banks or credit unions will grow with you; First Premier will not. Most people close a First Premier card after 1-2 years and that can effect your credit score. So why not go with a secured card that will stay with you for years instead.

Congrats nonetheless, it is a great feeling to be approved.

I agree w/the previous comments. Just because you have troubled credit doesn't mean you have to be robbed blind. At any rate, too late now so for the love of money, don't throw good money after bad. Pay off the balance so you're not paying interest on those ridiculous fees! Apply for a secured BOFA, Citi or Wellsfargo. They'll look much better in your wallet.

Thanks guys. I was curious to see what would happen. I will be paying off the balance on this card. I will also apply for one of the secured cards. I might try BoA or Citi. Thanks again.

Good luck with your credit card journey I am right now in the pocket of fpb cause I have two card with them. I'm paying them off as quick as I can to then move around in the credit card world. I will say on record that these fees are killer but I'm tamming them the best I can by at least doing two times the amount they want for the minium payment.

I paid my bill on time for 5 months and the 6th I paid it off... A few weeks after the payment was taken I applied for a credit limit increase to my 375.00 starting credit limit. I instantly received 150.00 increase and was charged a 25.00 credit limit increase fee. Good luck with this card the fee's are high and I'm currently looking for another credit card in addition to this one and my Citi Secured.
