Sweetnmean's Card Review:

I applied for this card and was approved pending the first payment of 25.00. And that was it. Had some questions about payments and when I called customer service they were very prompt and accurate with answers.

the only thing I don't like is using their web site to make payments. Only cause I don't receive anything by email that confirms payment. It shows on the site though. Other wise have had the card for 2 months and have no complaints. I think this will be a good card for ppl trying to repair their credit like myself

Congrats on approval for rebuilding! May I suggest you DENY the 2nd card First Premier will offer you after 6 months of on time payments, if you can avoid it. They offered it to me, but I figured why would I pay DOUBLE the fees if they're not willing to grow with me (and they WON'T). In time you will receive better offers from other creditors, (and 1st Premier knows that!). Simply don't get sucked up into their scheme of "The 2nd Card"(however some do). I started with 1st Premier on 04/01/08 and I still have them (until my 2 year mark-04/01/2010) and I've requested at least 3 CLIs and they would not budge. Long story short, use THEM, don't let them use YOU!!

My scores when I CHOSE to rebuild my credit in 04/08 were between 480-502, as of today, NEW YEAR'S EVE 2009, I'm at

TU-635

EXP-643

EQU- 670

and still improving(there's no turning back now!)

Not to mention, yesterday I just picked up my 2009 Super Black Nissan Altima with an 8.8 APR;not too bad considering my scores. The ball is in your court play well and Good Luck!

You Are Well On Your Way... So Be Prepared!!

One last note, pay 1st Premier through your bank's bill pay service to avoid the $7 fee through Premier.

Again, Good Luck and Happy New Years!!

I have this card too. I have had no problems with them whatsoever. Had it about 8 months now, and they do move you on to better cards. A year and a half ago first premier gold was my first card re-building, then 6 months later I got the platinum too. I managed them good, then opened a secured card. My scores have raised 100 points, and I now have 750 limit ge money low apr card, and a 750 limit wells fargo card too, with no fees. Use them untill you can open better cards with no fees and then dump them.

Hey kforbes86, you mentioned that you started with their gold card, so I'm wondering what your APR% was for that one(if you recall); just to see if there's any difference between their silver, gold, platinum, etc.

Because, I started with the platinum with a 9.9% APR; and if your gold card has the same APR, that goes to show me that all their cards are the same and Premier just put those titles on their cards to "attempt" to make their customers fell better about their scores.

Just trying to make sense of them doing that with a sub-prime credit card(that's unusual.) I'm simply trying to make since of First Premier not giving ANYONE a single CLI.

I started with the gold car at 9.9%. I did get a limit increase on my gold card of $100 after it being open a year...

Thanks, for the quick reply kforbes86, at least you did receive a CLI from them.

I still plan to shut them down at my 2 year mark on 04/10.

It's time for me to move on.

First Premier does offer CLI's from time to time, on their terms, for a $25 fee. At least they used to.

And you are right, First Premier will label their cards all sorts of different names but they are almost all essentially the same.

I have been hearing about them lately though because of the CARD Act coming next month. Because they can no longer charge fees in exces of 25% of the credit line, they are instead offering a 79.9% APR! So far it has been a test but who knows what they are going to go with that.

Ok brownfox79, I have questions, upon questions. How long will it be till I can apply for a card that doesn't have fee after fee and then fee's for the fee's? I was looking at my credit score and I'm not top notch., I was sitting at a 480 last June and I am now sitting at about 528. Have been trying to clean up my credit for some time now. So far its not doing badly. But this card is really something else. Whats the lowest my credit score can be in order to apply for another card? I have always wanted a capitol one card cause they seemed to have the lowest everything and looks like they would grow with u. First premier wouldnt be bad if they would give you CLI's upon good on time payments and if u didn't have to pay fee after fee. I so want to drop this card but its the only card I have and don't wanna drop it till I can get another card that's better. What do you suggest?

Sweetnmean, first off I'd like to apologize for the delay in response.

As to how long it'd be before you can obtain no fee CCs is tough for me to say. I too attempted Capital One when I started rebuilding, but was denied. Later on after reading other posts, I found out that I was probably denied for not already having at least 6 months of on time payments with the cards I'd just opened(Which were ALL fee cards-6 of them all together).

So if you want Capital One I'd suggest waiting until you've had 1st Premier over 6 months (which should be around the corner for you) to greater your chances for approval. I do recommend you get another CC on your Credit Reports. Always allow one to report a $0 bal. And let the other one report between 1 to 9% of the CL.

I previously stated that you deny the 2nd card First Premier will offer you after 6 months of good history with their 1st card. I simply said that based on the fact that they are awesome for rebuilding, but they will NEVER grow with you. I'd hate to see you paying those monthly fees on 2 of their cards that will never see any CLI unless you pay for them.

If all else fails with Capital One, you should soon be seeing those ugly offers from First Premier, then it's up to you to decide if you want it or not; at least they won't ding you with another inquiry for the new card if you do accept it.

A word of advice with First Premier since you mentioned you pay them through their on line site, is to pay them through you bank's Bill Pay service to avoid the $7 payment fee. This is extremely important if you do in fact accept the next First Premier card. With you paying through their site on 2 cards on top of the $7 monthly fee for each card, that's $28 a month just to carry their cards. So save yourself some $$ and pay them through your bank.

Another one that comes to mind is Orchard Bank, have you applied with them yet? Orchard is similar to Capital One, meaning you're more than likely to pay an AF with this card but they don't have monthly fees. Orchard was the very first card I applied for when I started rebuilding.

Summarizing, If you want Capital One go for it after 6 months of payments with FP. Pay FP (FOR FREE!) with your bank's Bill Pay regardless if you accept their 2nd card or not.

Hope this helps, and enjoy the journey to better credit!

Oh, and I did forget to mention that I did call to cancel my First Premier at my 2 year mark back in 04/10 as planned and the Rep. Asked why; and I told her my scores have greatly improved since opening my card with them and I don't want to pay another $48 AF. She then stated that she could credit my acct $45 which would only leave me to pay an AF of $3.

I figured in that case why not keep them for another year.

She even noticed it's been almost a year since I've used their card and she told me that I could STILL continue to not use the card and they'd still report on all 3 CBs.

The way I look at it is why not pay.24 cents a day for another year of excellent payments. It could only help, right?
